Due to its direct influence on organisms living in the water dissolved oxygen (DO) is an important parameter in water quality measurements. Therefore it is essential to control its concentrations with rapid and reliable method.

For laboratory applications related to DO measurement, optical oxygen sensors have wealth of benefits in comparison to traditional electrochemical sensors. One of the most significant is that there is no fragile oxygen membrane or problems coming from electrolytes. As the optical sensing principle does not involve any oxygen consumption, the measurement is flow independent. Furthermore, it is not influenced by H2S and CO2 or other compounds.
